In addiction treatment, guests relearn important life skills and gain tools that allow them to process and get through any obstacles that life may throw their way. Part of addiction recovery is removing bad habits, and replacing those habits with healthy ones.
Making Healthy Habits
Making healthy habits are what will ultimately create a routine for guests. Guests will reach for healthy habits when they are in times of distress, and need to do something healthy to improve their mood or thoughts. Healthy habits are essentially a guest’s defense against picking up another drink or drug, known as “relapsing.” Royal Life Centers at Spokane Heights encourages healthy habit-making to improve your sobriety and quality of life. Healthy habits will help to keep your life manageable, and ignoring your healthy habits will be a warning sign for you and others that you are slipping back into old behaviors. Many healthy habits can be made in our drug rehab programs, here is a list of five healthy habits that you can make in drug rehab:
1. Make Your Bed
Making your bed in the morning is a healthy habit, and creates a sense of routine. Besides a made bed being nice to look at, having a routine to guide you through your morning sets you up for success for the rest of your day.
Meditation has a wide range of benefits, especially for those in recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. Meditation is a great way to practice mindfulness, or staying present in the moment. Try sitting down for a few minutes each day or night, focusing on what is stimulating your senses as you try to quiet your mind.
3. Reach Out to Sober People
Building and maintaining a network of sober supports is vital to a strong recovery. Get people’s numbers who come to speak, or get a phone list at a 12-step meeting, and call people to introduce yourself so that they get to know you. The people you build into a support network will be invaluable as you go through the stages of recovery.
4. Eat 3 Balanced Meals Each Day
Eating well contributes to whole-body wellness. Royal Life Centers at Spokane Heights has an in-house, private chef, who prepares three balanced meals for guests each day. This is the perfect time for guests to start properly nourishing their bodies and pay attention to balanced nutrition. Royal Life Centers at Spokane Heights makes this healthy habit an easy one to maintain while you are in our care.
5. Practice Therapeutic Activities
Whether that be drawing, painting, journaling, or exercising, therapeutic activities are great coping skills to have. These therapeutic activities will also allow guests to creatively express themselves, providing an everlasting outlet for whatever thoughts or emotions they may be experiencing during drug rehab. These skills are also extremely helpful to guide introspective reflection.
Healthy habits are easy to make in drug rehab, as you are on a journey to learning how to live in a new way, free from the constraints of drugs and alcohol. Royal Life Centers at Spokane Heights offers a variety of therapies that allow for self-exploration, like adventure therapy, activity therapy, and equine therapy. With these therapies, guests will be able to find out what brings them joy and interest. Royal Life Centers at Spokane Heights offers a medical detox and a residential inpatient program. Both of these programs are at an inpatient level of care, meaning that the guests live residentially in our treatment facility. In addition to these programs, Royal Life Centers also offers a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), an outpatient program (OP), sober living and graduate housing.
